For Undergraduate Students

The lab regularly involves undergraduate students, particularly those majoring in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, though students from other fields may also participate.

Undergraduates can join the lab as research assistants, where they gain hands-on experience with research methods and help with data collection and analysis. Many students register for Independent Study and UROP to receive academic credit for their work.

Research assistants are expected to attend weekly meetings and actively contribute to lab projects. Strong performance may lead to a letter of recommendation (with at least one week’s notice). In some cases, advanced students may also:

  • Contribute to conference presentations
  • Earn co-authorship on research papers

Senior students may complete a Capstone/FYP project under Dr. Nguyen’s mentorship. These students often:

  • Apply for undergraduate research funding
  • Present their findings at the Undergraduate Research Symposium

For Prospective Graduate Students

I am always happy to hear from motivated applicants interested in joining the PhD or MS programs, with or without prior funding. Students who are passionate about research and eager to develop their skills are especially encouraged to reach out. I am open to discussing potential funding options as well as opportunities for externally funded students.
